A warehouse fire in Oakland grew to three alarms early Monday, and appears to have started from the roof — possibly from the use of illegal fireworks, fire officials said — one of several blazes that sparked in the East Bay as illegal fireworks ignited in an almost non-stop manner.
Oakland Fire crews responded to 40 calls, according to dispatchers, while Contra Costa Fire Protection crews responded to 53 fires on Sunday and early Monday, officials there said.
Fire agencies in San Jose and in Alameda, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties did not report any major fires.
According to fire officials, the blazes did not cause any injuries.
A summary of the major fires that broke out on the Fourth:
Oakland
The warehouse fire in the 900 block of 77th Avenue broke out around 12:10 a.m. Fire crews found the building engulfed in flames and were ordered out of the building after initially trying to get inside and on the roof to fight it, according to posts from the Oakland Fire Department.
Crews remained on the scene of that fire Monday morning but had contained it from spreading to other buildings.
Illegal East Oakland fireworks tonight still going strong. So far no fires, glad the wind calmed down a bit. I’ve lived here for 24 years, and this is just the way it always is. That given, it’s super dry this year. #FourthofJuly @OakTribNews @EastBayTimes pic.twitter.com/zXABKymr8k

Oakland Fire crews also battled a building fire at 42nd Street and Telegraph Avenue that grew to two alarms. That fire began just before 3 a.m., and crews also are investigating to see if illegal fireworks contributed to that blaze starting.
A two-story residential building at 12th and East 23rd avenues also caught fire in the attic, and crews put out a fire at an apartment building in the 4600 block of Congress Avenue, according to fire officials.
Contra Costa County
Contra Costa Fire Protection District crews stopped a fire on Kirker Pass Road at 35 acres after a car caught fire on the road. The bypass commute road connects Concord with Pittsburg, and authorities turned traffic around while crews fought the blaze.
That fire started around 1:15 p.m. and fire crews from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection also helped with the effort to stop it.

Crews also responded to a house on W. 5th Street in Antioch, where flames were burning a roof. That blaze was started by fireworks, according to ConFire officials. A single-family home on Deems Street in Pittsburg also caught fire after fireworks were shot into the home’s backyard, officials said.
Con Fire is responding to a single family home fire on Deems St., Pittsburg caused by fireworks shot into the backyard. Avoid area to allow first responders access. Report fireworks use to 833-885-2012 and ALL fires to 911. #confirejuly4

Crews expected illegal fireworks to continue through Monday, and said they were prepared for another busy day.
