In a push to hire 160 more workers, a North Whitehall distribution and fulfillment center is offering wages up to $28 an hour plus what the company is tooting as a “competitive benefits package.”

United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), one of the nation’s largest grocery store distributors, is offering warehouse and driver positions. A job fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19 at UNFI’s distribution center, 4255 N. Valley Drive.

Pay for those positions ranges $17.50 to $28. A full benefits package, including medical, dental and vision plans; a 401(k) plan with company match; an “early access” to paychecks program; and entry at the Lifestyle Distribution Center are included.

A company spokeswoman said the Lifestyle Distribution Center soon will include a wellness center, company store, café, video game room and an outdoor pavilion on-site. Additionally, Lauren Sweeney and Cole Schaffner, UNFI talent acquisition partners, will be available at the event to answer questions, arrange interviews, and provide job candidates with more information.

Job seekers unable to attend the event can apply for open interviews by appointment. Interviews will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays; 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays.

UNFI isn’t the only area distribution center faced with labor shortages.

Uline in October held a hiring event looking to employ 90 workers for its Upper Macungie Township distribution and fulfillment center. The Wisconsin-based employer was offering wages up to $27 hourly and a $2,000 sign on bonus.

E-commerce giant Amazon in September sought to hire 600 regional employees and another 1,000 employees at its new Hamburg, Berks County warehouse as part of a national push for 100,000 new hires. The hiring also was in addition to the more than 16,000 Amazon jobs already existing in Pennsylvania. Starting pay for those jobs was expected to be $15 an hour with a $250 or $500 sign-on bonus.
