Nusret Gokce, also known as Salt Bae, is hiring a chef to whip up pricey menu items like Golden Giant Tomahawk steaks that cost $1,975 (£1,450) for a measly $16 an hour.
The celeb chef is looking for a Chef de Partie for his famous London steakhouse, Nusr-Et, and offering the station chef role just $16 to $18 (£12 to £13.50) an hour, plus tips, for their service. That wage is equivalent to a side of mashed potatoes or sweet corn at the trendy eatery, according to the Daily Mail.
The job was posted on caterer.com and notes the restaurant “offers a highly competitive salary.”
“Amazing opportunity for an experienced Chef De Partie to join Nusret team in the new restaurant in London,” the post read. “As a Chef De Partie, you will be working with some of the finest ingredients from the U.K. and abroad in the one of the most famous steakhouses in the world.”
The site continued, “You will play a vital part in a large team and will support the Head Chef during service. To the successful candidate, Nusret London offers a highly competitive salary and excellent opportunities to develop a global career.”
After opening in September, the Nusr-Et London in Knightsbridge was highly criticized for its outrageous prices, which include $34 (£25) desserts, $12 (£9) soda, a Golden Burger for $136 (£100), Golden Giant Striplion for $1,839 (£1,350) and Golden Kafes for $681 (£500), as noted by the Sun.
Gokce, 38, went viral in 2017 when a video surfaced of him flamboyantly flinging salt on a slice of steak. The restaurateur has grown his brand with 38 million social media followers and has opened 17 restaurants across the globe.
A-listers such as DJ Khaled, Leonardo DiCaprio and David Beckham have visited his steakhouses to get their fill of salt and iron.
In August, Gokce and his steakhouse chain were sued for allegedly stifling workers’ pay. Five grill men filed the suit in New York City and alleged Gokce refused them overtime pay. The men each claimed they made a weekly salary of $1,125 and worked over 70 hours per seven days.
The suit alleged that the grill men perform other menial tasks such as “take out garbage, wash dishes, clean stove hoods, clean toilets, prepare special meals for the managers and Gokce when he was present and run errands and purchase products when there were shortages at the Restaurants.”
Salt Bae was sued previously in April when he was hit with a $5 million copyright infringement lawsuit by Brooklyn artist William Hicks, who claimed the chef stole his artwork and used it without permission.
