NORTHAMPTON – About 60 friends and supporters of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hampshire County, including Mayor David Narkewicz and a dozen members of the Western Mass chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse, gathered inside a heart-shaped luminaria at Childs Park to take part in “This Little Light of Mine” commemorating the start of Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month on Thursday. The Rev. Nancy Sykes of Easthampton lead a welcome blessing at the kick-off event but the luminaria, hosted by the CAC and Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan, also took place on the steps of the Hampshire County Courthouse and at individual homes, incorporating 2,000 luminaria in all to represent the number of child abuse survivors the center has served since moving to its Elm Street location in 2006.
