A five-hour standoff with a man wanted by North Bergen police ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon when Jersey City police took the man into custody.
The drama started just after 10 a.m. when North Bergen police traveled to Jersey City to make an arrest of a man wanted in a robbery.
Details were not immediately available Tuesday evening, but the man barricaded himself in a motor vehicle in the area of Kennedy Boulevard and Clinton Avenue and told police that he was armed.
Roads in the area, from Bergen Avenue to the east and West Side Avenue to the west, as well as multiple blocks to the north and south of Clinton Avenue, were closed for much of the day.
Police negotiators were in contact with the man, whose name was not released, during the afternoon and eventually convinced the man to surrender just after 3:30 p.m.
No hostages had been taken, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said earlier in the day. Details of the North Bergen robbery were not immediately available.
