LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) -- Linn County Public Health, Iowa Pharmacy Association, and Reutzel Pharmacy are partnering together to hold a 24 hour COVID-19 vaccine clinic.

The clinic will be held at the Alliant Energy Convention Center in downtown Cedar Rapids from 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 17 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 18.

The clinic will be open to any individual age 16 and older. About 1,000 vaccines will be administered throughout the duration of the clinic. Recipients will get the Pfizer vaccine. The second dose clinic will be held on May 8.

Appointments are required. Any individual making an appointment should be available for both the first and second dose clinics. Once made, appointments cannot be rescheduled. To schedule an appointment, call 319-892-6097 or use the appointment scheduling link found here. The Alliant Energy Convention Center is located at 350 1st Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids.

The 24 hour clinic is being held to accommodate shift workers and other populations that may need flexible hours for scheduling a vaccine appointment. Interpretation services will be available.

The clinic will be staffed by representatives from Reutzel Pharmacy, Linn County Public Health, and volunteers from the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

"Linn County Public Health is excited about this collaborative opportunity with Reutzel Pharmacy and Iowa Pharmacy Association to vaccinate our neighbors," Pramod Dwivedi, Linn County Public Health Director said. "This is one of the strategies we are using to vaccinate our residents who otherwise may not be able to get the vaccine due to their schedule."

"The unique format of the 24 hour clinic over the weekend is intended to provide access to vaccine in a way that these patients might not have had before. Our goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible and get shots in arms to vaccinate Iowa," Roger Thompson, Operations Director at Reutzel Pharmacy said. "Collaborating with Linn County Public Health and having support from the Iowa Pharmacy Association plays a key role in vaccination efforts. We are excited to partner with these amazing groups to provide the best quality care and offer vaccine access for all populations."

"Collaboration across the state between pharmacies and public health departments is critical to efficiently immunize our states’ population. Residents in Linn County will benefit from this collaborative event being hosted, with creative strategies to target different populations," Kate Gainer, Executive Vice President of the Iowa Pharmacy Association said.
