In a game that started three hours late and ended at midnight, Hewitt-Trussville sped past Bob Jones 42-20 to advance in Class 7A playoff action.
A stadium lights problem forced the game to move from Madison to Huntsville’s Milton Frank Stadium.
The kerfuffle didn’t seem to bother the eighth-ranked Huskies, who got plenty of big plays from key players.
“We are glad to be moving on,” said Hewitt-Trussville coach Josh Floyd. “It was a wild night, but I’m proud of our guys finding a way.”
Omari Kelly caught two touchdown passes for the Huskies (9-2), a 37-yarder from Cade Carruth and a 48-yarder from Peyton Floyd, who also scored on a 13-yard run.
James Hammonds led the ground attack with touchdown runs of 17 and 82 yards.
Jamarian White added a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Bob Jones’ Rayshawn Hardy had a pair of 2-yard scoring runs and threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Robert Morgan for the host Patriots (5-6).
Hewitt-Trussville advanced to visit top-ranked Hoover in the Class 7A second round action.
