Syracuse, N.Y. -- A Syracuse police SWAT team raided a home after an eight-hour standoff on Grant Avenue Wednesday where police were looking for a person in connection with a call overnight.

A large police presence flooded the 300 block of Grant Avenue around 5:08 a.m., Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a Syracuse police spokesperson, told Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.

Police had spotted a vehicle they were looking for in connection to a call regarding a gun, he said.

One person in the vehicle ran into a house on Grant Avenue. Other people involved in the incident were detained, he said.

Around 7:30 a.m., the SWAT team arrived.

Just before 1 p.m., they raided 316 Grant Ave. to search for the suspect. Police also brought K-9 dogs into the home.

After about 20 minutes, the SWAT team exited the house without a suspect in custody.

Syracuse police continued the search of the home after the SWAT team left. Officers also took photos of a car parked near the house.

During the eight-hour standoff, police could be seen at one time going behind one house and then coming back out to shelter behind vehicles.

SWAT team members repeatedly pointed long guns in the direction of the home.

Police were ordering neighbors to stay inside their homes and preventing people from walking down the street.

They also blocked off Grant Avenue between South Geddes and Arthur streets. All streets are now reopened.

Other officers were seen with shields and long guns before the SWAT team arrived.

Police have still not confirmed what call the suspect was connected to.

In addition to the armored SWAT vehicle, there were at least five police cars and a department crime scene vehicle on the scene.

The standoff was just a few blocks away from Bellvue Elementary School. District officials said the school was not placed under lockdown during the standoff.
