Huntley Fall Fest chairman Bryant Haniszewski wanted to shine light on Chicago-area bands and musicians that have been missing out on the thrill of summer performances because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local festivals are where a lot of residents are first introduced to local bands and artists. Many go back and see that same band or artist again, and maybe discover somebody new.
Because of the state's stay-at-home order, musicians have not been able to go out and perform, leading to monetary losses for artists who rely on live performance as a source of income.
Not knowing what lies ahead in the coming months, Haniszewski organized a 13-hour live streaming event of Huntley Fall Fest, starting at 11 a.m Saturday. Twenty-four bands and artists will perform at least 30 minutes apiece and the concert will be broadcast on one continuous live stream.
The concert, from 11 a.m. to midnight, will be broadcast on the Huntley Fall Fest Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/huntleyfallfest. The event, which was put together in a little more than a week, has already gained interest from more than 3,400 people on Facebook.
"Nobody is really focused on all of the musicians that aren’t working this entire summer at all," Haniszewski said. "I think it’s good to shine light on that, share the artist's feeds, and give people something different to look at and listen to.
"It's providing many people something to do other than the Groundhog Day we’ve been living in."
The concert is free to watch, and Haniszewski encourages anybody who can to donate to the Chicagoland Musicians Unite GoFundMe fundraiser page to support musicians who are out of work because of the pandemic.
Bands and musicians will stream remotely from their homes or other locations, and Huntley Fall Fest will feed in those streams to their virtual concert platform, complete with graphics and information about the artists. Sound Works Productions is providing services for the event.
Haniszewski has helped bring together some of the better known artists throughout the area, including band members from 7th Heaven, Modern Day Romeos, Wedding Banned, Hi Infidelity, Libido Funk Circus and many more.
"Some festivals have just gone dormant and haven’t posted anything," Haniszewski said. "I don't think that's right. For many of these artists, it’s like they’re getting ready for a real festival."
Haniszewski said there will be some surprises along the way.
At 7 p.m., never-before-seen concert footage of 7th Heaven performing at Huntley Fall Fest will be shown. Mayor Manaconda, the former lead singer of Wedding Banned, will close out the 13-hour concert, starting at 11:30 p.m.
"That's going to be can't-miss because he is insanely funny," Haniszewski said.
Haniszewski said many are already asking him to have more concerts in place for the future. He's hopeful that Huntley Fall Fest, scheduled for Sept. 25, 26 and 27, will still go on.
"This is first of its kind, with the length and quantity and quality of people," Haniszewski said. "Watching it, having it occur, and having people enjoy it is why you do it. Having this and raising some money for the musicians is a good thing."
