Former Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light found himself in hot water with Bill Belichick after a prank he tried playing on the head coach went astray.
In an NFL Network interview with former teammate Willie McGinest, Light recalled the story of how he replaced Belichick’s computer mouse with a zapping mouse one day during training camp.
“We’re in training camp and I found, online, a mouse that you plugged into your computer," Light said. “I walked into Bill’s office when he was in a staff meeting and I replaced his mouse with a shocking mouse.”
The next day, having forgotten about the prank, Light was surprised when Belichick’s assistant, Berj Najarian, informed him he went a little too far with his prank.
“That did not go well. He lost all the information on his computer,” Light said. “He was angry at me for about a month. I had to run a little extra in practice. But we made it through it.”
The mouse prank wasn’t the only one Light tried during his decade-plus in New England. He also recalled a time when he tried to get Belichick to sign a football with an exploding pen.
Light’s wife, Susie, kept asking her husband to stop out of fear the Patriots would cut the three-time Pro Bowler.
“My wife on a regular basis would say, ‘Honey, please don’t do that,’" Light said. “'He’s going to fire you this time. He’s going to cut you and you’re not going to have a job.'”
