6-Hour Standoff Between SDPD, Burglary Suspect Ends With Arrest - NBC San Diego

A standoff between SDPD and a burglary suspect barricaded in a downtown apartment building went on for more than six hours Thursday before the suspect was put in cuffs.

Someone called 911 at around 4:30 to report a woman inside of a unit at the building on the corner of W. Harbor Drive and Kettner Boulevard, according to the San Diego Police Department. The caller also reached out to the resident of the unit, and was told no one should be inside.

Officers eventually made contact with the woman, possibly in her 20s, and threatened to send in K-9 units if she did not surrender.

A tweet sent by SDPD at around 8:50 p.m. said SWAT units and an Emergency Negotiation Team were on their way. Psychological Emergency Response Team (PERT) personnel were already on scene, the tweet said.

At around 10:15 p.m., SDPD said it was sending in a robot to search the unit. The robot located the woman, and officers forced entry into the unit soon after. Just before 11 p.m., the woman was taken into custody.

No other information is available.
