GPX Racing’s No. 36 Porsche 911 GT3 R led at the halfway stage of Creventic’s 12-hour Coppa Florio race at Enna-Pergusa heading into the overnight break.

The car driven by Mathieu Jaminet, Robert Renauer, Frederic Fatien and Jordan Grogor built up a one-lap advantage over the MP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 during Saturday’s six-hour period of running.

GPX started from third on the grid but Jaminet worked his way into the lead early in the second hour, getting past Ivan Bellarosa in the pole-sitting Avelon Formula Wolf GB08 prototype.

The Avelon car then lost several laps with a gearbox issue while GPX tightened its grip on the race with Grogor and Jaminet sharing turns at the wheel before Fatien brought the Porsche through to the halftime checkered flag.

MP Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMG started from pole ahead of the Wolf and the GPX machine but lost track position when it pitted during an early Code 60 caution period.

Henk de Jong, Jaap van Lagen and Rik Breukers also had a 60-second time penalty applied at the end of the first six hours for not respecting the minimum driver rest time between stints, but they managed to remain in second heading into the break.

CP Racing’s Mercedes-AMG of Charles Putman, Charles Espenlaub, Joe Foster and Shane Lewis was third at halfway, ahead of the No. 7 Porsche from Dinamic Motorsport.

The highest-placed GT4 car was the PROSport Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 in 12th overall, while the No. 451 Sorg Rennsport BMW M4 GT4 was running second in class.

Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing led the TCE division’s opening stanza with its Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR driven by Miklas Born, Fabian Danz, Constantin Kletzer.

GPX Racing’s halfway lead earned the UAE-flagged team the di Martino trophy, while the historic Coppa Florio award will be presented to the overall winner tomorrow.

The second half of the 12-hour race is set to resume at 11 a.m. CEST (5 a.m. EST).
