Two types of snow systems will occur over Michigan this weekend. The snow forecast below from a high resolution model will show you specific amounts for any location in Michigan.
Saturday will have a steady, widespread but fairly light snow moving across Michigan. The afternoon and evening will be the main hours for the light snow. There will also be narrow ribbons of lake effect snow. While the areal coverage of the lake effect won’t be large, right inside the snowbands there could be heavy snow.
The interactive snow forecast below is a great way to find out if you are in the general light snow area, or the heavier lake effect snows.
This display uses the computer model called the High Resolution Rapid Refresh Model. It’s usually one of the best models for snowfall forecasting from the immediate future to 36 hours in the future.
You can enter an address in the top search bar, and the display will zoom to that location. Next, left click on your desired location, and a window will come up with the snow forecast.
You can scroll around and zoom in and out. As you zoom in, smaller cities will populate the map.
You can control the animation and stop it at any time in the next 48 hours.
You can see that most of Michigan will get what we would call light accumulations for February. There will be some thin ribbons of heavy snow along the Lake Michigan shoreline, the tip of the Thumb and the larger area of the Lake Superior snowbelt.
