Windy and mild today
Our weeklong spell of early spring-like weather continues today as gusty south winds work to pull in the warmest air of the season so far, helping temperatures possibly flirt with the 40s across the local area. We'll have occasional sunshine and clouds throughout the day to go with those south winds that will develop ahead of a storm system that is approaching from the northwest. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s this afternoon with gusts reaching 35 miles per hour at times. Unfortunately, wind chill values will be quite a bit colder, mainly in the mid-20s to lower 30s.
Friday evening rain and snow
A few spotty rain and snow showers will develop just after sunset this evening, moving in ahead of the weak clipper-type storm system that is sliding in from the northern Plains. No accumulation is expected in our area, though. Clouds will thin out later in the night with overnight low temperatures in the upper 20s and a slightly lighter southwest breeze.
A bright and mild Saturday
Mild air will linger in the area for our Saturday with abundant sunshine and a light southwest breeze, making for a rather pleasant, spring-like day. High temperatures tomorrow will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s which is almost ten degrees above the seasonal average.
Saturday night snow
A storm system from the west will move into the area late in the day Saturday, bringing thicker clouds in the late afternoon and then some light rain and snow showers for the early evening. Those showers will transition to light snow late in the evening and it looks like much of our area will have snowfall accumulation in the overnight hours and for the early part of Sunday morning. Expect an inch or two of snowfall from Rochester and Austin to the north with less than an inch in far southeastern Minnesota and North Iowa.
Bright, but colder Sunday
Snow showers will taper off early Sunday morning in the wake of the departing storm system and the bulk of the day looks actually fairly bright and sunny. Temperatures, however, will be a bit colder for us with afternoon readings only in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees, and a brisk westerly breeze will keep wind chill levels in the teens and lower 20s.
A mild, spring-like start to March
Tranquil sunshine will be the rule for the upcoming week at least until Friday and the following weekend. We'll start the week with high temperatures in thje upper 20s before warmer air builds in over the course of the next few days. High temperatures will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s each day which is still several degrees above the seasonal average.
A storm system looks to graze the area to the south Friday, but so far it looks like rain chances will impact central Iowa and northwestern Illinois and not necessarily our local area. Another system will bring a chance for light rain by the following Sunday with high temperatures next weekend in the low to mid-40s.
