Dessa with the Minnesota Orchestra, New Power Generation, Soul Asylum and the Okee Dokee Brothers are among the acts that will appear on “Shine on Minnesota,” a two-hour broadcast that airs at 7 p.m. Sunday on FOX 9. It will feature “entertainment, musical performances, inspirational messages and stories of hope from some of Minnesota’s favorite artists and celebrities,” according to a news release.
Presented by FOX 9 and Minnesota Public Radio, “Shine on Minnesota” will be hosted by Jason Matheson (“The Jason Show”), Alix Kendall (“Fox 9 Morning News”), Cathy Wurzer (MPR News) and Jill Riley (89.3 The Current). In partnership with GiveMN, proceeds from the event will be donated to local charities Second Harvest Heartland, Springboard for the Arts and MN Central Kitchen.
“This is an especially important time to amplify the voices of our Minnesota music scene,” said the Current’s managing director David Safar. “With a wide range of local talent on deck, ‘Shine on Minnesota’ will be the light for all Minnesotans in a time that has felt very dark for many.”
Other homegrown entertainers set to appear include Stokley Williams, Andrew Zimmern, Michael Shynes, Children’s Theatre Company, Vikings SKOL Line, Jeremy Messersmith, P.J. Fleck and Yam Haus.
