KALAMAZOO, MI – A six-hour standoff with a barricaded gunman ended early Thursday, Sept. 17, with police entering the house and arresting the suspect without further incident.

Kalamazoo police responded around 11:50 p.m. Wednesday to a report of a man with a gun in the 1800 block of East Main Street.

Police met a victim at the scene who reported having an altercation with the suspect. The suspect had fired a gun at the victim, police said.

Police determined that the suspect, a 37-year-old Kalamazoo man, was still in the house. Police secured the home while seeking a search warrant. Kalamazoo Metro SWAT and a crisis-negotiation team were called in.

Police contacted the suspect by telephone during the ordeal but he refused the leave the home, police said. After about six hours, police went in and arrested the suspect who was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail.
