Caltrans has announced a 55-hour full closure of eastbound lanes on the 210 Freeway (the Foothill Freeway) at the 5 Freeway (the Golden State Freeway) that is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Oct. 2 and go through to 5 a.m. Oct. 5 in Sylmar.
Lanes affected
- eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway to Roxford Street
- the 5 Freeway connector to the eastbound 210 Freeway
- eastbound Yarnell Street on- and off-ramps
Drivers will be detoured to the Roxford Street off-ramp and State Route 118.
The project is scheduled to run through spring 2023 or, if weather or other conditions are not favorable for construction, to early 2024. Other communities affected by the construction include Lake View Terrace, San Fernando and surrounding unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
Drivers may check Caltrans QuickMap for traffic alerts/conditions during the weekend: quickmap.dot.ca.gov. Closures are weather permitting and are subject to change in start and end times.
Caltrans is also alerting residents and businesses in the area that they may experience dust, noise and vibrations due to the construction work.
The construction on the 210 Freeway is part of a $135.5 million project that will replace all lanes with new pavement from Wheatland Avenue to the 5 Freeway. The project is funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
The project, covering 9.7-miles, includes refurbished on- and off-ramps, connectors and adjacent shoulders and upgraded traffic loop detectors, guardrail system, center median barrier and overhead sign structures.
Also, the freeway lighting system and traffic signals at on- and off-ramps will be improved. Existing curbs ramps will be upgraded where necessary to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project will also add storm water treatment devices to eliminate trash from storm water drain systems.
