SEFFNER — A Seffner man died and a Plant City woman was injured when a pickup truck ran a red light and slammed into their car Saturday night at Hillsborough Avenue and McIntosh Road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The driver of the pickup, Avellaneda Teodoro, 21, of Dover, was arrested a change of DUI manslaughter in connection with the 11:45 p.m. collision.
Teodoro was headed north on McIntosh Road when he failed to stop at a red light and crashed into a car headed east on Hillsborough Avenue, also known as U.S. 92, troopers said. Both vehicles rotated to a final rest in the intersection.
The driver of the car, 29, was taken to a hospital, where he died. His passenger, 28, received serious injuries. Teodoro was not injured. All three were wearing seatbelts.
The Highway Patrol did not release the names of the victims because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment approved by Florida voters in 2018 that is meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been made available under state public records law.
