SUNNYVALE – A 14-hour standoff in Sunnyvale ended in the arrest of a 23-year-old man Tuesday, authorities said.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Yorktown Drive about 7 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault in progress, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a news release.
The victim, who had facial injuries, told officers the suspect had assaulted him with a metal pipe and threatened his life. Authorities said the victim managed to fight off the suspect, escape from the home and call 911. Two other residents of the home also escaped without any injuries.
Officers surrounded the residence and attempted to communicate with the suspect throughout the evening.
Authorities said the suspect was on probation and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
About 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, officers entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident, authorities said.
The suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats, as well as a probation violation.
