TUCSON, Ariz. — Two men suspected of robbing a couple banks in Tucson about an hour apart have been arrested, authorities said.
Pima County Sheriff’s deputies responded to two bank robberies Saturday afternoon in Tucson.
After the first robbery about 1 p.m., the suspects reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle.
One hour later, deputies responded to another report of a bank robbery at a different location.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken and the two suspects again fled the scene in a vehicle.
Deputies located a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle, did a traffic stop and took two men into custody.
Sheriff’s officials said 44-year-old Deangelo Dawson and 31-year-old Handy Velarde are jailed on suspicion of two counts of armed robbery.
They said the two men also are being investigated for their possible involvement in bank robberies earlier Saturday in the town of Sahuarita, south of Tucson.
It was unclear Sunday if either Dawson or Velarde have a lawyer yet.
