Many residents are waiting to see if Montclair will find a way to help with overnight parking after the township resumed enforcing parking restrictions on November 1 that were temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic back in March.
Police officers started ticketing vehicles on November 3 parked in violation of 1-, 2-, and 4-hour on-street and overnight parking regulations.
Residents were notified on the parking restriction enforcement resuming in late October via the Swift911 alert system. The information was posted on the home page of the township website. In addition, the Parking Utility sent several advisories to permit holders via the Parkmobile portal.
The Town Manager maintains that many residents called his office asking that parking enforcement on the streets be reinstated.
Other residents who have been ticketed or otherwise affected by these restrictions are asking why, since the pandemic has not ended, has Montclair not offered some kind of temporary permit or other option while the pandemic continues.
In an effort to promote Small Business Saturday and encourage shoppers to support local merchants, the Mayor and Council did pass resolution R-20-172 to suspend meter collection and allow for two hours of free parking at metered spaces throughout Montclair beginning on Small Business Saturday, November 28 and during the 2020 holiday shopping period from and including Sunday, November 29 through and including Sunday, December 26. The two-hour time limit will be strictly enforced.
