Organizers of this year’s Light Up Corydon event urge residents to watch the turning on of the Corydon town square lights on Facebook Live on the Main Street Corydon page.

Angel Frizzell, executive director of Main Street Corydon, said the lights will be turned on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The change to a virtual event was made due to Harrison County being in the orange category for COVID-19 (see related story above) and the need to social distance rather than have a large gathering.

She invites people to see the lights in person with family and friends anytime Sunday through Dec. 31.

There are a number things people can do Saturday, which is designated as Shop Small Saturday, Frizzell said.

This includes a children’s scavenger hunt at the Harrison County Public Library in Corydon; participants can pick up a list of clues and a recipe for Santa’s favorite cookies then find the Christmas characters with a cookie ingredient in the windows of downtown businesses (the scavenger hunt also can be completed during the month of December); the Artisan Trail of Harrison County holiday show at the First State Office Building in Corydon from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (see page A3 for more details); and the Corydon Christmas Extravaganza at the Harrison County Fairgrounds in Corydon from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Downtown Corydon shops and restaurants will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. as part of Shop Small Saturday, and Christmas music can be heard playing throughout the town and in the shops.

There will also be photo opportunities, backgrounds and frames around town, Frizzell said.

A “Find the Christmas Pickle Scavenger Hunt” will begin Friday and continue through Dec. 23. Find out more on the Main Street Corydon Facebook page or at Little Texas Consignment in downtown Corydon. Prizes will be awarded for this hunt.

Other planned events between now and Christmas include:

• “Tiny Art” exhibit at the Harrison County Artisan Center in downtown Corydon beginning Friday through Jan. 23.

• Merry Country Christmas wagon rides and gift shop at the Wright Interpretative Center in downtown Corydon, hosted by the Harrison County Parks Dept., Nov. 27 and 28 and Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12.

• Blow your own ornament at Zimmerman Art Glass in Corydon on Nov. 27 and 28 and Dec. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19.

• Traditional Christmas open house Dec. 3 to 6 at Olde Country Cupboard in downtown Corydon.

• Holiday Historic Express Train (trackless train) on Dec. 5 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Little Texas Consignments.
