The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Caledonia (pop. 930) located 32 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Union Choco (pop. 9,500) located 66 km from the epicenter, Boca de Cupé (pop. 880) 73 km away, La Palma (pop. 1,700) 77 km away, Necocli (pop. 10,800) 83 km away, and Turbo (pop. 50,500) 107 km away.
