Open-world zombie action game Dying Light 2 — now known as Dying Light 2 Stay Human — will be released on Dec. 7, developer Techland announced Thursday during a livestream titled Dying 2 Know. The game had been previously delayed indefinitely, and was originally planned for a spring 2020 launch.
Dying Light 2 Stay Human is bound for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The sequel will send players to the City, described by Techland as “mankind’s last stronghold in the fight” against the virus that turned the population of Harran into zombielike creatures in Dying Light. The day-night cycle and parkour-inspired traversal of the original game will return in Dying Light 2. Players will take control of a new protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, who joins up with a group of survivors known as the Nightrunners.
Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018 and showed off gameplay the following year. In our preview of the game from E3 2019, we compared it to a first-person action movie. “It can be dizzying at times, with the main character leaping from rooftop to rooftop, then grappling with enemies at close range,” we wrote at the time. “At other times it can be downright frightening, with tense standoffs against the undead deep inside dark, cavernous buildings.”
For Dying Light latecomers, Techland has a new bundle featuring the original Dying Light and all of its downloadable content called Dying Light Platinum Edition. That version is available for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, via the PlayStation Store, Steam, GOG, and Xbox Game Store.
