Get ready, because today’s one of the most exciting days on the Overwatch 2 front so far.
Although we got our best look yet at the Overwatch 2 co-op and story modes at BlizzCon in February, there wasn’t a whole lot of information about what’s next for PvP. That’s about to change. There’s a two-hour Overwatch 2 PvP gameplay stream taking place on Thursday afternoon, so we’ll soon have a much better idea of what that looks like.
Blizzard has promised to show off new maps and features during the stream. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll get a better look at Soujourn in action. It seems too early to reveal another upcoming hero, especially with a lot more to discuss, but you never know!
Overwatch League casters Matt “Mr. X” Morello and Mitch “Uber” Leslie will host the stream. Members of the Overwatch 2 dev team will show off the PvP gameplay, including new game director Aaron Keller, lead hero designer Geoff Goodman and associate art director Dion Rogers. Expect some Overwatch content creators to show up as well.
Remember that because this is a showcase for the PvP side of Overwatch 2, all of this new stuff will come to the current game as well — unless Blizzard changes its mind on any elements. Given the lack of new heroes or core maps in Overwatch in recent times, the stream should come as a welcome glimpse of what’s ahead.
We still don’t know when Blizzard plans to release Overwatch 2, other than the fact it probably won’t be in 2021. I suspect it’ll either be early next year or sometime after the 2022 Overwatch League season ends, but that remains to be seen.
The Overwatch 2 gameplay stream starts at 3PM ET/noon PT/8PM BST. You’ll be able to watch it on Twitch or YouTube. I’ll also have coverage of the highlights.
