The Nürburgring 24 will get back underway at 10:40 a.m. CEST (4:40 a.m. EST) on Sunday morning after a long 13-hour red flag due to thick fog around the Nordschleife.

Cars were ordered to the pit lane after six hours of racing at 9:30 p.m. and were held there overnight as poor visibility made conditions unsafe at the 25 km German circuit.

A planned restart time of 7 a.m. was announced, but this had to be set back by a further three hours and 40 minutes as the race directors waited for the fog to clear sufficiently.

Four hours and 50 minutes of racing will follow the green flag.

The pit lane will be re-opened at 9:30 a.m., exactly 12 hours after the race was stopped.

The No. 1 ROWE Racing BMW M6 GT3 shared by John Edwards, Nick Yelloly, Nicky Catsburg and Philipp Eng will then lead the field away on the formation lap at 10:20 a.m.

The No. 4 Haupt Racing Team Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Adam Christodoulou, Manuel Metzger, Luca Stolz and Maro Engel will restart from second, ahead of the Schubert Motorsport BMW of Alexander Sims, Jens Klingmann, Jesse Krohn and Stef Dusseldorp.

Despite holding the net lead after Stolz’s third-hour overtake on Porsche driver Kevin Estre, followed by a gap-increasing set of stints from Metzger, the lead HRT Mercedes-AMG will start behind the 2020 race-winning ROWE BMW due to the latter car running in front at the end of lap 34, when the positions were taken for the red flag.

This was because ROWE was the last of the front-running SP9 cars to make its fifth pit stop. Christodoulou led on the road after ROWE’s service but was counted back to second.

Last year’s N24 edition was also affected by an overnight red flag, due to heavy rain rather than fog. The race was stopped after seven hours and resumed with six and a half hours left on the clock. ROWE Racing took victory with Yelloly, Catsburg and Sims.
