Our pick
Neewer 14-Inch LED Ring Light (RL-14)
With a sturdy tripod that adjusts from desk to standing height, plus multiple color temperature and brightness settings, this ring light gives you the most control over your lighting.
Buying Options
In our tests, the Neewer 14-Inch LED Ring Light (RL-14) cast a pleasant, soft light, evenly illuminating the face and improving video and photo image quality. Unlike most ring lights, which have only a few color-temperature settings, this light has a control dial that lets you choose from 40 color temperatures ranging from a warm 3,200 kelvins to a daylight-cool 5,500 K to adjust for different skin tones and other colors in your room. It also has 40 brightness levels—four times the range of the other ring lights we tested around this size or smaller. All of the accessories that come with the ring light are handy, as well: The package includes a tripod that you can use on a table or extend up to 61 inches, a flexible phone mount, a remote for your phone, and a remote for the light itself. Unlike many ring lights, which can draw power from a laptop’s USB port, this Neewer model requires an outlet to work. That limits its functionality outdoors. If you need a USB-powered ring light, consider the Godox LR120 12-Inch LED Ring Light instead.

Godox LR120 12-Inch LED Ring Light
This ring light provides ample lighting, and the unconventional stand takes up less desk space than a tripod. The stand doesn’t telescope up, though, so you can use it only while sitting.
Buying Options
If you don’t plan on using a ring light at standing height, you can save some money with the Godox LR120 12-Inch LED Ring Light and still get flattering illumination at your desk. It offers six color-temperature settings—double the number of other ring lights in this price range—and eight brightness levels. The stand’s flat, fold-out feet make the light easy to position behind a monitor. The kit doesn’t come with a remote for either your phone or the ring light, but the in-line controls on the long USB cord are more pleasant to use than those on competing ring lights. Since it’s USB-powered, it can also work outdoors with your laptop.
