Duxbury Beach Unconfirmed shark sighting temporarily closes Duxbury Beach for swimming on Sunday

DUXBURY, Mass. — Duxbury Beach was temporarily closed to swimmers on Sunday after an unconfirmed shark sighting that officials later confirmed was an ocean sunfish.

“Swimming will be closed for 1 hour,” tweeted Duxbury Beach Operations at 3:18 p.m.

Duxbury Beach officials also issued a high tide warning for the beach on Sunday.

Sunday September 12. We have an unconfirmed shark sighting off of the OSV. Swimming will be closed for 1 hour. 🦈
