CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – An investigation is underway following a shooting on a light rail Wednesday morning in south Charlotte, officials said.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. on the light rail train near the 3700 block of South Boulevard.

One person was hit and is currently in stable condition at an area hospital, authorities said.

Police said the shooting was preceded by a fight between two men. One of them pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the person who was “beating up on him,” according to law enforcement.

Authorities said the shooter was taken into custody after remaining on the scene and fully cooperating with law enforcement.
