"We had hoped that our Pflugerville location would be among the approximately 300 clubs that we are reopening nationwide," the email stated. "Unfortunately, after many years of serving the community, we have not be able to come to favorable lease renewal terms with the landlord and will now have to close our Pflugerville Super-Sport Club."
Eviction signage was posted in mid-March. However, representatives for the chain fitness club told Community Impact Newspaper on May 20 that they were working with the landlord in an effort to reopen the Pflugerville location. By mid-June, the club announced plans to reopen in early July. However, on June 15, the company announced that 24 Hour Fitness had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Still, at that time, the Pflugerville club was not among the hundreds of locations expected to permanently close.
Pflugerville gym members can elect to transfer their memberships to a different area club by contacting 24 Hour Fitness, per the July 16 email. At this time, three clubs have reopened in Austin. Should a member take no action, their membership will be canceled, according to information provided by the company.
