An extensive search-and-rescue effort was launched last Thursday after a 10-year-old Quilcene boy had gone missing for 45 minutes while he had been playing outside.
The boy was reported missing by his grandmother at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, said Jefferson County Sheriff Joe Nole.
Multiple people began searching for the boy, including his parents as well as others on quads, as the Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson Search and Rescue responded to the 10-acre property to join the search.
The boy’s brother, who had also been outside playing, said he didn’t know where his brother had gone. People checked a fort in the woods and other places where the boys had played, without success.
The boy’s grandmother told authorities she was concerned about him coming into contact with wildlife.
After Jefferson Search and Rescue was notified, a team with a drone was called in, along with other on-the-ground searchers.
Searchers looked for the boy for two hours, and he was found at 10:30 p.m. after he emerged from a hiding place.
When asked, the boy was vague about where he had been hiding.
