If you’re looking for a new job, and you think you’d be a good memer, Bud Light may have exactly the job you’re looking for.
Andy Goeler, vice president of Bud Light marketing, announced on Aug. 18 via Instagram, that “the brand is searching for their first-ever CMO – also known as “Chief Meme Officer” – for its Bud Light Seltzer portfolio.”
What exactly does a “chief meme officer” position entail?
The brand’s news release said that Bud Light Seltzer has been designing authentic seltzer memes since its hard seltzer first launched in January - referring to the brand’s perfected, “five-times filtered hard seltzer, with 100 calories and four delicious flavors.”
However, to bring their creative to the next level, the brand is in search of some fresh thinking - realizing that “a hard seltzer is only as good as its memes.” So, starting immediately, the news release said “the brand will recruit the best memers out there to join the brand’s marketing team for the next three months to help curate epic Bud Light Seltzer memes.”
“After launching our hard seltzer earlier this year with top rated flavor profiles, we’re excited about the chance to enhance our marketing department, specifically our meme game,” said Andy Goeler, VP of Marketing, Bud Light. “We’re excited to hire the brand’s first-ever Chief Meme Officer to help us generate unique Bud Light Seltzer memes that will complement and drive even more awareness of our great tasting seltzers.”
Here’s how to apply:
Any U.S. resident, 21 years or older, may apply to become the Bud Light Seltzer Chief Meme Officer, with no purchase necessary. The application period runs Aug. 18 through Sept. 18, 2020. During that time, those eligible can apply at BudLightSeltzerNeedsMemes.com. Applicants can also download meme templates at that link, to begin experimenting.
What are the CMO’s responsibilities?
According to the news release, the brand’s CMO responsibilities “will include (first and foremost) enjoying Bud Light Seltzer and creating ten (10) viral memes and sharing them via social media.”
How will the chosen applicant be compensated?
“The fan granted the title of Bud Light Seltzer’s (first-ever) Chief Meme Officer will be compensated $5K per month for three (3) months,” the press release said.
In addition, the news release stated that all applicants will be entered “for a chance to win a three-months’ worth of Bud Light Seltzer.* (*Prize is $120.00 of Venmo credit or one (1) $120.00 prepaid card that can be used to purchase two (2) 24-pack cases of Bud Light Seltzer per month for three (3) months.)
