PALMER - Police arrested a 25-year-old Palmer man Monday night following domestic disturbance at a Hill Street home that turned into a stand-off with police when the man hid inside the house for 5 1/2 hours, police said.
Masael Maldonado was placed in custody just before 11 p.m. after he surrendered peacefully, police said.
Police responded to the address on Hill Street, in the Bondsville section of Palmer, at around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about someone threatening to use a firearm, police said.
When police arrived, Maldonado hid inside the residence and refused to respond to police.
Palmer police called for assistance at the scene from the Hampden County Special Response Team, made up of officer with the Hampden Sheriff’s Department and neighboring communities.
After Maldonado was taken into custody, no firearms were found in the house.
Police said he had several prior arrests involving firearm and drugs offenses. At the time of his arrest, he had been ordered to wear an electronic GPS tracking device but he had apparently cut it off.
Police declined to disclose the nature of the charges against Maldonado because of state laws preventing the disclosure of domestic offenses.
Maldonado was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Palmer District Court.
