Habersham County Schools will operate on a 3-hour delay Monday, February 8. School Superintendent Matthew Cooper released the following statement Sunday afternoon:

“The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for black ice tonight. As you are aware, our county picked up between 2 and 4 inches of snowfall last night. Today this snow is melting, leaving significant runoff across roadways. We have been out checking this afternoon and have found lots of water on our roads. Unfortunately, temperatures will fall below freezing tonight, causing dangerous conditions for our buses and student drivers. Due to the black ice advisory from the National Weather Service and the threat of snowmelt refreezing on roadways tonight, all schools will be on a 3-hour delay on Monday, February 8, 2021.

Concerns over black ice and possible unsafe driving conditions also lead Rabun County and Union County Schools to alter their schedules Monday. All Rabun County students will move to online learning for the day, and some Union County students will as well. Towns County Schools are closed.

All North Georgia Technical College campuses Monday will delay opening until 10 a.m. with students reporting to their class that normally meets at that time.
