Although not born or raised in Kenton County, Clyde and Mary Middleton, through years of service in political, religious and philanthropic endeavors, made a lasting impact on the county and the rest of Northern Kentucky.
The lives of Clyde and Mary Middleton will be remembered as part of the next NKU History Hour, a virtual event hosted by the Behringer-Crawford Museum.
Their son, Kenton County Circuit Court Clerk John Middleton, will talk about the Middletons' lives and local careers.
Clyde Middleton served as a state senator from 1967 to 1986 and as Kenton County Judge/Executive from 1990 to 1998.
He played a role in the founding of Northern Kentucky University, moving Chase College of Law to NKU, and the creation of the modern Kenton County Public Library.
Mary Middleton was the first Republican woman to run for office in Northern Kentucky, and did so in 1959.
Both were celebrated for their charitable and civic contributions.
Mary died in 2011 in an accident, and Clyde died in 2019.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Hosted by Shane Noem and Tara Johnson-Noem, vice president of the BCM Board of Trustees, NKY History Hour is a weekly offering of the museum focused on Northern Kentucky history, featuring local authors, historians and archaeologists.
NKY History Hour presentations are currently free to the public but may become a BCM members-only benefit in the future
