HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Damage was limited to a heating unit as crews were called to an overnight fire at a Hastings manufacturing plant.
The call came in at 1:49 a.m. Wednesday with reports of flames and smoke visible at the Flowserve manufacturing plant on west 2nd Street.
Authorities say the fire was contained to a furnace unit used as part of the manufacturing process, which had not been used since noon the day before. Damage from the fire did not spread to surrounding areas and there was no significant structure damage.
The cause was determined to be accidental in nature due to equipment malfunction.
No one was in the plant at the time and no one was injured battling the fire, which was quickly brought under control. HFR credited properly-working fire protection systems and the quick actions of on-site staff for the minimal loss to the building and lack of injuries.
The Hastings Fire Department was assisted at the scene by personal and equipment from the Hastings Rural Fire Department, as well as fire departments from Juniata and Glenvil.
