WHITEFIELD — A man who allegedly threatened a woman with a knife and a gun was arrested early Saturday following an eight-hour standoff in Whitefield, according to deputies.
Edward M. Poch, 64, of Whitefield, was arrested on initial charges of domestic violence criminal threatening, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and domestic violence assault, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at about 5:40 p.m. Friday to a reported domestic disturbance on Hunts Meadow Road.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that two men and a woman had fled the house when Poch allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and a gun. The three were taken from the property and then interviewed.
Deputies and Maine State Police troopers attempted to speak with Poch, but were unable to establish contact. Eventually, the Maine State Police’s Crisis Negotiation and Tactical teams were called to the scene in the northern Lincoln County town. They tried to make contact with Poch throughout the night.
Poch was taken into custody at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
He had reportedly resisted arrest and was subdued by a state police dog.
Poch was taken by the Gardiner Ambulance Service to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where he was treated for a bite to the arm. No other injuries were reported.
Deputies executed a search warrant at the house and recovered several firearms, according to officials.
Poch is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset until his court appearance, scheduled for this week.
The Whitefield Fire Department closed Hunts Meadow Road during the standoff. It remained closed until 3 a.m. Saturday.
