A six-hour standoff in a central Fort Collins home ended early Friday morning with the arrest of a man wanted on several previous charges, according to Fort Collins police.
Police received a 911 call at 6:24 p.m. Thursday about a disturbance in the 300 block of Edwards Street, according to a press release. The house is a few blocks east of the Colorado State University campus.
As officers arrived, three people came out of the house, the release said. None of them reported injuries, and they said a man still was in the house.
The man inside was identified as a 48-year-old Fort Collins resident who had warrants for multiple charges from a Fort Collins Police Services investigation, according to the release.
Police said the man refused to come out and barricaded himself in the home, telling police that he had a gun.
During the hours he was locked in the home, police officers, detectives, crisis negotiators and SWAT team members tried to get him out, the release said.
SWAT used “numerous less-lethal tools” to try to persuade the man to leave, which he finally did just after 12:30 a.m. Friday, according to the release. Police didn’t say whether he actually was armed.
The man was treated for exposure to the chemical irritants that the police had used during the standoff, the release said. He then was taken to the Larimer County Jail in Fort Collins.
From the outstanding warrants, the man faces felony charges of retaliation against a victim or witness and two counts of stalking, and misdemeanor charges of violation of a restraining order (two counts), false imprisonment, violation of bail bond conditions, harassment and two counts of domestic violence.
Additional charges from the standoff are pending, the release said.
