We’ve seen measurable snow at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on just one day this December. Our Dec. snow total at MSP airport stands at just two-tenths of an inch. Parts of the Twin Cities metro area could see a dusting of snow this afternoon.
Light snow begins in northwestern and west-central Minnesota early this morning, then spreads to the east/southeast. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern this Sunday and Sunday evening:
Snow accumulations are expected to be less than an inch in northern and central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, with just a dusting in most other areas.
Temps and winds
Sunday highs may creep into the lower 30s in the Twin Cities metro area and parts of southern Minnesota, with 20s in central and northern Minnesota:
Winds will be picking up as we go through Sunday afternoon, gusting to 18-24 mph in many areas by late afternoon:
Plotted values are in knots, with 16 knots equal to about 18 mph.
