A cluster of more than three dozen earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 2.5 to 5.1 shook in the same remote area of Nevada over a 17-hour span Tuesday and early Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The strongest of at least 40 temblors that were centered near Mina, Nevada, about 116 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe, struck at 3:33 p.m. Pacific time Tuesday, the USGS said.
The string of quakes continued into the evening and early morning hours Wednesday, with the latest recorded 3.9 magnitude temblor coming at 8:08 a.m. PT Wednesday, the USGS said.
