“ I don’t mind going back to daylight saving time. With inflation, the hour will be the only thing I’ve saved all year.” — Victor Borge

Tonight at 2 a.m. begins Daylight Savings Time. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour. It ends Sunday, Nov. 7. We need to take advantage of extra daylight. Soon we will be cutting the grass instead of shoveling the snow off of our driveways and sidewalks.

So as Manny Gordon said, “Enjoy, enjoy!!”

Kingston/Forty Fort Fire reminders

Fire Chief Frank Guido has a few important words for our readers:

“Happy spring, from the Kingston/Forty Fort Fire Department! It was a very long and cold and snowy winter for everyone. It was also a very busy time for all the members of the department. We are all looking forward to spring and then summer.

We would like to remind everyone as we move our clocks ahead one hour on Saturday to please check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. We also would like to remind the residents of Kingston and Forty Fort that we have a limited number of free smoke detectors that the members are willing to install free of charge. Please call the fire station at 570-287-0770 to make an appointment to have them installed free of charge, first come, first serve. Please remember, smoke detectors do save lives.

Also, we typically see a lot of open burning issues this time of year. If you are going to have a recreational fire, have fun but please be safe and never leave the fire unattended, have a hose or fire extinguisher present and put a screen over the fire. If you are unsure, please stop at fire headquarters and pick up a copy of one of the ordinances from Kingston or Forty Fort.

Enjoy your spring and summer as the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter as we come out of this pandemic.”

Edwardsville Pierogi Festival

Great news — the Edwardsville Hometown Committee will hold its seventh annual Edwardsville Pierogi Festival on Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12, at John Hopkins Memorial Park in Edwardsville.
