MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison couple is lighting up the community with a news online LED neon art business.
Co-owner Karen Brown opened Color & Light after the pandemic forced her to shut down her afterschool program.
She and her husband Jonathan decided a neon light business was a "pandemic-proof" idea.
Brown says the heart of her business is custom designs, but she also has a branch called "Sings of Change" that gives back to good causes.
"Every design that's in that category gives a portion back 10 percent back to an organization that actually does work toward that cause," Brown said. "They do illuminate the message and the cause, and they start a conversation. So, that's what we're looking to do, and that's really important to us."
Brown says it's difficult to start a business during the pandemic. She's focusing on the growth of Color & Light and hopes it reaches beyond the Madison area.
"We need to keep it sustainable. We actually need to grow far beyond local."
