People across the Triangle were surprised by an unexpected phenomenon in the skies over NC on Sunday morning.
Phone calls, pictures and videos poured in from WRAL viewers, as people sent images of a large parabola of light moving across the skies around 6:10 a.m.
Some called it space debris. Others referred to it as a meteor. Still others reported "possible aliens."
One person sent this incredible photo from Holly Springs, saying it was possibly a "beautiful meteor."
According to the Space Calendar on Space.com, today is the launch date for "a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket to launch approximately 60 satellites for SpaceX's Starlink broadband network in a mission designated Starlink 21."
The launch was poised to lift off at 5:44 a.m. from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
WRAL's NASA Ambassador Tony Rice confirmed that the light seen by people across the Triangle was indeed the SpaceX satellite launch.
People from all around the Triangle sent videos and photos of the impressively bright light moving across the dark morning sky. Many locals were stunned by the large size and vibrant light, wondering what the strange object could be.
On person wrote, "I saw this meteor while walking by dog at 6:09 a.m. in downtown Clayton."
Another image from Warren County came with the note, "My co-worker and I saw this in the sky this morning leading into work."
Someone in Chapel Hill sent a capture, writing "Shot at 6 a.m. in Chapel Hill. Rapid moving with a parabola of bright light. Meteor? Satellite?"
WRAL was also sent multiple videos of the light moving through the skies.

Another person sent a video from Raleigh calling it a "possible alien sighting."
More video was sent from Granville County at 6:09 a.m.
Yet another video was sent from Franklin County.
The unusual light show created quite a spectacle and an exciting start to Pi Day, which often celebrates the role Pi plays in helping us explore outer space.
