Drivers be warned -- Manassas to activate red light camera - PotomacLocal.com

sekirta.blogspot.com

If you drive through Manassas, consider yourself warned.

The city is about to activate a new red light camera at the intersection of Liberia and Euclid avenues, near Osbourn High School.

The city tells us:

On Monday June 14, 2021, at 12:00 a.m., a 30-day warning period will begin for this intersection. After the 30-day warning period, citations will begin being issued to violators. Traffic violations go through a 2-step review process with the City’s vendor, Conduent Transportation.

The violation is then sent to the Manassas City Police Department where it is reviewed a third time by a sworn officer. If it is determined to be a violation through this 3-step review process, a citation will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

The fine is a $50 civil penalty which does not apply any points to the owner’s license, nor can it be used to increase insurance rates.

The camera is one of 10 new photo-red cameras coming to the streets of Manassas. We first told you in 2019 about the City Council’s plan to use traffic cameras to enforce speed limits at key intersections.

Last year, city police were called to nearly 500 traffic crashes, about 25% fewer crashes than what was reported in 2019. One person was killed in a crash in the city last year.

The intersection of Route 28 and Liberia Avenue was the most dangerous interaction last year with 51 reported crashes.
