PLANT CITY — A 30-year-old Tampa man died early Saturday after he drove through a red light, crashed into a semitrailer and was thrown from his car, troopers say.

The crash took place about 4:54 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 60 and Turkey Creek Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Tampa was driving a car south on Turkey Creek Road towards the intersection. A 62-year-old Lakeland man was driving a semitrailer east on S.R. 60. The Tampa driver drove through the red light on southbound Turkey Creek and struck the left-rear of the semitrailer as it crossed the intersection, troopers say.

The 30-year-old driver was ejected from the car and suffered serious injuries. He later died at a hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The Lakeland driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The Highway Patrol did not release the names of those involved in the crash due to its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, an amendment to Florida’s Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but deprives the public of information that had long been available under the state’s public records laws.
