GRINNELL, Iowa (AP) -- Police in east-central Iowa have arrested a man after a 7-hour standoff in which that man allegedly shot at officers, and set his farmstead on fire.

Authorities say they were called to the home near Grinnell, Iowa on Wednesday after Dwaine Bauman's family said he had a gun and was acting strangely.

Officials say the 49-year-old Bauman--who at the time was covered in paint-- became aggressive and fired a gun multiple times. Authorities couldn't say why Bauman was covered in paint.

Bauman allegedly set fire to a home, two vehicles, a barn and almost 100 bales of hay.

A friend of Bauman's said he was upset over a hog confinement project in the area. Bauman was arrested around 9 p.m.

He's charged with three counts of second-degree arson and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
