The first of two heart-shaped light towers was installed Tuesday at the Worcester Red Sox’s Polar Park stadium.
Worcester Red Sox president Charles Steinberg announced the light towers in a press conference on Monday, where the team released official team jerseys and hats.
The lights atop the towers, which are situated in left center field and right center field, are meant to resemble a heart, in an effort to pay homage to the city of Worcester, as it is known as the “heart of the commonwealth.”
The light tower installations comes as one of many moves the organization has recently made. Last Thursday, the Polar Park received its last steel beam infusion. City and team officials joined the construction workers in signing the beam prior to its installation.

Monday’s press conference was largely focused on the revealing of official jerseys and on-field hats.

Three variations - red, white, blue - of the jersey read “WooSox” across the chest. Four variations - red, blue, gray and white - had “Worcester” across the chest. A white jersey had “Red Sox” across the chest with a “W” on the left sleeve. A final variation of blue featured the “W” with the heart in the middle on the left chest.
A state-of-the-art draining system is expected to be installed at the end of the month, Steinberg announced Monday as well.
Polar Park stadium, which now has an estimated cost of $130 million, is still on pace to open in April of 2021, city and team officials contend. Construction was paused for seven weeks in April and May due to the coronavirus.
