Are we there yet? Road trips can be lots of fun ... if the car ride doesn't take too long. We found 10 interesting attractions that only take around two hours to drive to from the Cincinnati area, and they all take preventive measures against COVID-19.  

Bicycle Museum of America (www.bicyclemuseum.com) at 7 W. Monroe St., New Bremen, Ohio, displays around 200 bicycles on three floors. This museum has bicycles dating from the 1800s to the present, and teaches about the history and social relevance of bicycles. The parking lot features a bicycle rack, public air pump and fix-it station for guests who ride bicycles there.

Hocking Hills State Park (thehockinghills.org) at 19852 OH-664, Logan, Ohio, offers hiking, biking, camping and cabin lodging. The park features seven separate hiking areas: Ash Cave, Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls, Conkle's Hollow (nature preserve), Old Man's Cave, Rock House and Hemlock Bridge Trail to Whispering Cave. They are all one-way trail systems.

Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo (https://ift.tt/2rvzCAt) at 3700 L&N Turnpike Road, Horse City, is a place where you can interact with kangaroos and emus. You can also go into a caged area populated by Lorries, birds found in Australia. Kentucky Down Under also features a petting zoo that includes horses, goats and sheep.

Natural Bridge State Park (parks.ky.gov) at 2135 Natural Bridge Road, Slade, Kentucky, received its name from its large natural sandstone arch. The 2,200-acre forested park and nature preserve features 22 miles of trails, a 60-acre lake, two campgrounds, lodging, dining facilities and a sky lift. Natural Bridge offers the Natural Bridge Hoedown, bird-watching, canoeing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, mini-golf, pedal boating, swimming and other activities. Guests can rent a room at the on-site Hemlock Lodge or camp.

Ohio Caverns (ohiocaverns.com) at 2210 E. Ohio 245, West Liberty, is known for its collection of America’s most colorful caverns. They are the largest caverns in Ohio. There are over two miles of surveyed passageways ranging from 30 to 103 feet. Ohio Caverns has a constant temperature of 54 degrees and is open all year. The caverns have a 35-acre park above them, which features a playground, picnic shelters, a visitor center and a gift shop, which sells rocks and fossils.

Ravenwood Castle (www.ravenwoodcastle.com) at 65666 Bethel Road, New Plymouth, Ohio, is an inn designed as a Medieval castle. It offers three categories of themed rooms: Castle Rooms, Huntsman’s Hollow Cabins and Medieval Village Cottages. Ravenwood Castle has a themed restaurant, Great Hall Dinner, which serves buffet styled dinners, and Raven’s Roost Pub, which serves pub food, craft beer, wine and spirits. The castle offers over 150 board games and hosts role-playing games, too.

Red River Gorge (www.redrivergorge.com) at 3451 Sky Bridge Road, Stanton, Kentucky, is designated a Geological Area, National Natural Landmark and National Archaeological District and placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has rock features, including sandstone arches and towering cliffs. Visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, canoeing and wildlife viewing.

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill (shakervillageky.org) at 3501 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, is the largest National Historic Landmark in Kentucky. It is a 3,000-acre area with 34 original 19th-century Shaker structures. The Pleasant Hill Shakers were a communal society who were well-known for their architecture, landscapes and belief in equality of the races and genders. Their population grew to 3,500 by the 1840s with Shaker communities spread between Maine and Kentucky. The Shakers were celibate and, not surprisingly, they died out. At the Shaker Village, families can lodge at the inn, dine on authentic Shaker cuisine from local ingredients and explore the authentic Shaker structures constructed in the 1800s.

Southern Ohio Museum and Cultural Center (https://ift.tt/2FvtQen) at 825 Gallia St., Portsmouth, houses two permanent collections. One features the largest single collection of works by native son and well-known American Scene painter Clarence Holbrook Carter. The other features “Art of the Ancients,” which contains 10,000 prehistoric Native American objects. Three other galleries feature exhibitions from well-known and emerging contemporary Ohio and regional artists. The museum also has a 100-seat theater, a reading room with over 1000 volumes, a student art studio, a docent-centered tour program and a gift shop.

Young’s Jersey Dairy (youngsdairy.com) at 6880 Springfield-Xenia Road, Yellow Springs, Ohio, is a dairy store that sells ice cream and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Check out the dairy farm, which allows guests to watch cow milking and pet goats.
