The #55 Mazda, with Jonathan Bomarito aboard leads the race with four hours remaining after another Safety Car period again brought the remaining top class continuers together on track.
Bomarito was able to take the lead and then fend off successive challenges from Kevin Magnussen and Filipe Albuquerque in the #01 Cadillac and #10 Acura respectively.
The caution came with an off for Matt Bell in the #83 WIN Motorsport Duqueine – off the track and into the barriers the car requiring the attention of the flatbed.
Soon after the race went back to green there was drama for Kamui Kobayashi with a very sideways moment taking the edge off the Japanese star’s charge in the #48, and then bigger drama still for Felipe Nasr who had a big moment coming through Turn One on his first flier of a stint, the #31 car skipping wide on the exit and collecting the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac as it exited the pits, both cars off track briefly and the #31 forced to pit for attention, though remarkably briefly after what had seemed a huge hit!

In LMP2 the #52 PR1 Mathiasen’s advantage over the nearest competition is now a full lap, Mickel Jensen leading in the #52 from Kyle Tilley in the #18 Era car and then Gabriel Aubrey in the #8 Tower Motorsport machine.
The #11 WIN Motorsport Oreca was a confirmed retirement.
GTLM was turned upside down by a fumbled pit call from Corvette which dropped their undelayed #3 C8.R from the lead to fourth.
That left the lead battle, for now at least, between Bruno Spengler’s #25 BMW and the #79 WeatherTech Porsche of Matt Campell with Augusto Farfus a further 4 seconds back in the #24 BMW – the Vette 30 seconds back.
LMP3 was led by Scott Andrews in the #74 Riley Ligier, well clear of the sister #91 Ligier.
GTD was still well alight too with four hours to go, Laurens Vanthoor (#9 Pfaff Porsche) leading Madison Snow (#1 Paul Miller Huracan) and the #14 Lexus of Jack Hawksworth.
The #99 Hardpoint EBM Porsche, previously tweeted out by the team as retired, returned to the race!
