A man died after an exchange of gunfire with police in Pittsfield following a 10-hour standoff, the New Hampshire attorney general’s office said.
Police were called to a home on Lyford Hill Road Monday morning for a domestic disturbance.
“Upon arriving, the Pittsfield Police called the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit, which is a regional SWAT Team, for assistance,” Attorney General John Formella and State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes announced. “An armed male subject refused to leave the residence and submit to arrest.
The standoff ended when gunfire was exchanged between police and the man, who was identified as Anthony Hannon, 52, of Pittsfield, Formella and Noyes said in a statement Monday night.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning to determine Hannon’s cause of death.
No one else was hurt. The officers did not have body or cruiser cameras, which is not required by law in New Hampshire, the attorney general’s office said.
The home is one of the last on the street that dead-ends just before it intersects with Route 28 near Globe Manufacturing. Property records show the single-family home has an attached studio apartment.
The Attorney General’s Office and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit are investigating.
“Pursuant to protocol, the name of the officers involved in the incident are being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interviews,” Formella and Noyes said.
